Special Ice is a mother and daughter partnership. Completely self taught, Sheila’s cake baking and decorating raw talent began many years ago and the know how clearly rubbed off as Sarah found she too inherited the special gift.
Until recently they only made cakes for friends and family, but as their fascination of decorated cakes grew and grew and with their desire to put their creative ideas into practice they decided to set up a small business. Special Ice is run from their beautiful home in Ledbury, Herefordshire.
Based on the family run farm cakes were initially baked in an Aga in the farm kitchen. The Aga is however, no longer reliable enough to cook such important cakes and instead two Electrolux ovens are used in their new purpose built cake kitchen. Converted from an old cider mill and granary the kitchen and studio is the perfect example of a farm diversification project for two enthusiastic people longing to continue doing exactly what they love doing. They have received some funding from Advantage West Midlands for the internal fittings of their new premises.
Sheila and Sarah are building up a wonderful portfolio of cakes. No two they make are ever exactly the same and they love the challenge of the new ideas customers bring with them. This is what really fuels their creativity.
