About Special Ice
Special Ice is a mother and daughter partnership and both Sheila and Sarah are completely self taught. Sheila’s cake baking and decorating began many years ago and clearly rubbed off on daughter Sarah as her passion and talent for cake making and decorating developed.
Until a few years ago Sheila and Sarah only made cakes for friends and family, but as their fascination of decorated cakes grew and their desire to put their creative ideas into practice they decided to set up Special Ice as a family business. The cakes were baked in their farmhouse kitchen Aga but as the business developed Sarah and Sheila decided to convert an old cider mill and granary as a purpose-built professional cake kitchen. The Aga wouldn't move, so Electrolux ovens were installed instead. The kitchen and studio is the perfect example of a farm diversification project for two enthusiastic people longing to continue doing exactly what they love doing. Special Ice has received some funding from Advantage West Midlands for the internal fittings of their new premises as well as the prestigious 5 Star Food Hygiene Rating from Herefordshire Council for the cake studio/workroom.
Sheila and Sarah have built up a list of delighted customers and have a wonderful portfolio of cakes to see in their cake gallery. No two they make are ever exactly the same and they both love the challenge of the new ideas customers bring with them. This is what really fuels their creativity.
